Butterfly Explosion: The Blood We Draw

Following a fifteen-year absence, Butterfly Explosion continue their return with The Blood We Draw, a song that reconnects with the ethereal shoegaze and raw alternative rock energy of their debut album, Lost Trails, while leading their sound into darker territory.

The track begins in a spectral dreampop haze, its guitar-driven atmosphere recalling the more introspective edges of nineties alternative music. Instead of remaining suspended there, it steadily gathers weight and intensity before breaking into a dramatic finale marked by the acuteness and shadow of eighties post punk.

The Blood We Draw finds Butterfly Explosion evolving without severing the thread running through their earlier work. Its production is handled by God Is An Astronaut’s Torsten Kinsella, with whom Carr previously toured as a member of the band, while mastering comes from Dave Cooley, whose credits include Wolf Alice, M83 and DIIV. The result is a carefully layered return that preserves Butterfly Explosion’s familiar sense of atmosphere while bringing a newly unearthly dimension into focus.
