Boston shoegaze outfit Vivid Bloom emerged in 2022, drawing from the genre’s classic foundations while pushing their sound into darker and heavier territory.
Their new single, In Strange Places, captures the unease of the digital age, exploring the forces that shape perception and pull at the edges of reality. Soft vocals drift through dense rhythms as shimmering guitars give way to waves of distortion, creating a sense of tension that runs throughout the song.
Its shifting dynamics mirror the push and pull between curiosity and conviction, certainty and doubt.
Whether interpreted as a reflection on misinformation and conspiracy culture, a story of alien abduction, or something more personal, In Strange Places resists a single reading, and certainly leaves space for its audience to draw its own conclusions.
Comprised of vocalist and guitarist Erika Hansen, bassist Tracy Putnam, drummer Alison Murray, and guitarist Dan Parlin (DN-PN), Vivid Bloom has earned a reputation for their live performances. With a full length debut currently in the works, the band continues to expand on the sound and vision that have defined its early releases.
