In a time increasingly defined by conformity and algorithmic control, stepping into a dark room full of strangers and surrendering oneself to volume, movement and connection feels almost radical. On their latest single, Liberation, NAUT bottle that feeling and turn it into a towering post punk/dark rocker.
The Bristol outfit draw from post punk’s pulse, classic hard rock’s muscularity, the gleam of nineties synthpop and even the shadow of extreme metal.
Liberation captures the band at their most focused. Equal parts dancefloor weapon and existential exorcism, the track explores the transformative power of the night like a journey through personal darkness, fear and uncertainty that emerges on the other side renewed.
At the same time, the single serves as a tribute to goth clubs and alternative spaces that have long functioned as sanctuaries for outsiders. It celebrates those spaces as sites of transformation, where isolation dissolves into belonging and bodies move without restraint.
The track’s sonic weight is matched by an impressive production pedigree. Mixing duties were handled by Simon Söderberg (Ghost), while mastering comes courtesy of Oli Morgan, whose credits span names from The Cure to Paul McCartney.
Dark, vibrant and quite relatable, Liberation feels like a reminder of freedom being out there, waiting on the dimly lit dancefloor.
