Vanity Box: Die Natur Macht Ihre Gesetze

With their new single Die Natur Macht Ihre Gesetze, Dutch indie rock outfit Vanity Box arrive to create a distinct realm of their own within the modern shoegaze and dreampop scene. The track sits at the emotional center of the band’s forthcoming second album Sudden Loud Sounds in a Capital City, out via Zeevonk Records, and it feels designed to overwhelm in slow motion.

Beginning with the fragile intimacy of indie pop before widening into towering post rock catharsis, the song carries the kind of aching momentum that recalls the dreamlike gravity of Slowdive's Golden Hair, and the connection with the genre's luminairies does not stop there.

What makes the song really devastating, however, is the emotional history embedded inside it. The lyrics originate from a German text written by the late father of bassist and vocalist Julia Bekker, giving the track a deeply personal core beneath its cinematic arrangements.

Production duties were handled by Harmen Ridderbos of Town of Saints fame, whose touch preserves the song’s organic warmth even as it swells toward transcendence. The final master comes courtesy of Simon Scott from the aforementioned Slowdive, and his influence is impossible to miss.
