stepover are part of a fresh new wave of bands shaping a vivid, emotionally charged shoegaze sound, and it feels like only a matter of time before they reach a wider audience. shell, their fourth offering, leans confidently into volume, letting its intensity carry the weight of the song without restraint.
They explain: "This song has a very important place in our live set so we wanted to capture that energy with this recording. We were very particular with how the wall of noise on guitars and drums should blend together and where the vocals should sit with that so we were very lucky to be able to work with Samuel Jones (Maruja, Mleko) in the studio and we are over the moon with the job he’s done.
This is a song not about anything in particular but there is a very strong mood and atmosphere to it, created by a combination of all the parts of the track that give it that feeling not just one part written to play a specific role."
The song builds a distinct atmosphere through the interplay of its elements, with each segment contributing to a shared feeling, helping it unfold as an immersive experience.
What stands out is the deliberate way they approached the fullness of their sound. The density isn’t treated as an endpoint, but as something shaped and guided, giving the track a sense of direction even at its most expansive.
