Wake Dance Romance, the lead single from Mark Trecka’s forthcoming full length Romance Wake Naming, out May 29th 2026, unfolds with a kind of deliberate unease, sounding all physical, and difficult to fully pin down. Produced and mixed by Paul Barker, whose work helped shape the architecture of American industrial and post punk, the track carries a part of that lineage without completely surrendering to it.
A haunting, mechanical rhythm anchors the song, while around it, textures gather and dissolve with corroded edges and space that feels actively held. Trecka’s vocal sits inside this environment, strained and volatile, as if pulled from the same circuitry that drives the track forward. There’s a sense of instability in the delivery, something close to unraveling, but guided with intent.
What emerges cannot be plainly summarized. The track resists clear framing, sustains tension without release, and therefore creates a more complex range for Trecka's music, emphasizing weight and substance.
