Dryft: Actacrume

During a pause from his role in post punk duo Vague Lanes, Mike Cadoo returns to Dryft with Particle, the project’s fifth full length release. Also known for his foundational work with Gridlock, Cadoo has maintained Dryft as a steady outlet for his electronic output, tracing a line from early post industrial IDM toward more measured and contemporary forms. Issued twenty-six years after his debut Cell, the album refines ideas introduced on 2021’s From Stasis, shaping them into a more defined and immediate collection of tracks.

Dryft has maintaned a consistent interest in instability within rhythm; patterns that shift, loosen, and recombine with a sense of constant motion.

With Particle, those tendencies are approached with a clearer sense of direction. Rhythmic structures still carry tension, but they settle with greater intention, while melodic elements move into a more central role, guiding the progression of each piece.

There is a sense of focus that runs throughout the new material, bringing Cadoo’s long-evolving electronic language into sharper view while continuing to build on it with quiet confidence. Actacrume, spanning over eight minutes of beautiful atmosphere, feels like the culmination of that artful approach and Dryft's vision for the new release.
