Cassadaga, Florida’s Cathedral Bells continue to refine their hazy blend of dreampop and shoegaze with a new track that leans into the strengths they’ve been shaping for several releases now. The project, led by Matthew Messore, has gradually expanded from early home-recorded sketches into something fuller and more assured, while still holding onto the intimacy that defined those first demos.
Messore’s jangling guitar lines and soft, shimmering synthesizers remain at the center of the sound. Over time, the arrangements have grown more layered and confident, allowing those melodic ideas to breathe within a broader, more immersive atmosphere.
The latest single, crashing out, carries a faint post punk undercurrent, but the foundation is unmistakably the band’s gentle dreampop sensibility. Cathedral Bells sound comfortable in this space, letting the melodies guide the track forward while maintaining the reflective tone that has become a signature of the project.
