Berlin's Waifish push forward with Head Into, their third release to date, and it finds the band sharpening their edges with a nervier, more confrontational post punk approach. There’s a palpable sense of momentumin the band's sound, tremendous energy coursing through every section, paired with a level of expression that suggests a fresh group growing more confident in their own intensity.
The song's production feels amazing in how it maintains its raw quality, and its strong, incisive lyrics serve as its foundation. Head Into is a lively track with tight, relentless rhythms and cutting guitars which allow the tension in the song space to breathe.
There are similarities to the type of post punk that bands like The Ex and Au Pairs pioneered, which favored angular guitar work, restless rhythms, and vocals that frequently appeared emotionally exposed. This type of sound recognized punk as a framework for experimentation as well as political tension, and neurotic energy. Waifish convey the same spirit of dedication and expression by drawing on that ancestry without replication.
