Mephisto Odyssey: CRASH: Reborn

Mephisto Odyssey has always been at the meeting point of dancefloor severity and industrial grit. The trio emerged from San Francisco, California, and became a pivotal factor in establishing the city's house sound, pushing it into darker, more aggressive territory at a period when West Coast electronic music was still figuring out its identity.

Throughout the nineties and early 2000s, Mephisto Odyssey built their reputation with a constant stream of self-released singles before going on to extend their agreements with City of Angels and Warner Bros. Records. Across many singles, remixes, an EP, and two full length albums, they continually pushed genre boundaries, drawing on house, industrial, and alternative culture in confrontational rather than polished ways.

One of the most stunning outcomes of the time period was Crash, co-written with Wayne Static of Static-X, which caught the visceral clash of club electronics and industrial metal fury. Another hit, Some Kinda Freak, went on to reach a larger audience with its inclusion in the horror film Hostel.

CRASH: Reborn honors that heritage with a new 25th anniversary version of the track. The remix, which features Wayne Static's final vocal performance, delves deeply into its industrial roots, reimagining the song for younger listeners familiar with dark EBM and industrial metal.
