The second full-length from Portland-based MIND PRISONER arrives as a cathartic metal compound steeped in goth and post punk influence. Following last year’s debut, The Color of Ruin, the band sounds more forceful and fully realized than ever. It’s a record drenched in darkness and brooding energy, recorded in the long light of summer 2025 between Portland’s City of Roses and the foothills of Walhalla, South Carolina.
The song Wound was inspired by Blessure Grave’s Crawlspace, with lyrics and melodies entirely original by Mind Prisoner. The track stands as another testament to the band’s post punk foundations and their ability to merge the dark, the accessible, and the ferocious corners of their songwriting into something extreme.
In a unique manner, the song tempers the brutality that typically defines Mind Prisoner’s sound, leaning instead into suspense and heightened tension. Brooding energy simmers throughout, less overtly violent, but every bit as intense.
