Gone, Vanished is a distinctly uplifting single about release and renewal from Fragrance.'s recently unveiled album Kintsugi. The song is a moody, dance-driven electronic number that captures the artist's characteristic melancholy, and evokes the gloomier side of synthpop.
Using metaphors of drowning to convey an internal conflict with identity and mental clarity, the song reads like an exploration on inner breakdown and growth.
Kintsugi was co-produced with Sophia Hamadi (S DIAMAH, Opale), and sees Fragrance. honing their sound, combining atmospheric synths with infectious beats and enchanting melodies.
The project's mastermind Matthieu Roche explains: "The song evokes a state of evanescence. There is a tension between presence and absence, as if running away from one’s own emotions, even though these experiences remain deeply internalized, with fear, melancholy, and beauty circulating within to sustain life."
Kintsugi is inspired by the Japanese art of repair that gives the album its name. It explores themes of renewal, resilience, and the subtle beauty that can emerge from fragility.
Roche describes: "Kintsugi is about embracing the cracks — learning to live with what’s been broken, and finding strength in the fragile."
