My Body is a Crime Scene by dark, genre-defying duo, Mrs Frighthouse, was mixed by Luna Frighthouse, and mastered by James Plotkin of Khanate. The song is a cathartic feminist number that takes aim at the power structures and culture of silence that enable abuse. It explores how physical contact can be weaponized, used to violate boundaries, instill lifelong trauma, and foster a deep sense of alienation from one's own body.
The lyrics echo the tradition of women’s cautionary tales, stories shared to protect one another from predatory men, infused with sharp modern relevance. References to Barbara Kruger’s Untitled (Your Body is a Battleground) ground the piece in a heritage of a radical feminist spirit which remains as urgent today as it was in 1989.
About their new single, Carys says: “This is a song that is extremely personal to us, and one of the hardest but most cathartic to perform live. I finally get to scream to the world ‘He did this to me…You did this to me’ after years of being pressured into silence, get to rage at every perpetrator, every bystander who did nothing and everyone I told who ignored or minimised it. Every single time I perform it, it feels like purging a little more poison and I feel a little cleaner and lighter.”
