Editrix: The Big E

Singer and guitarist Wendy Eisenberg addresses growing older in music scenes and feeling dissatisfied about how sounds change with each new generation in the title track of The Big E, the upcoming album by Massachusetts-based post punk band Editrix.

"We’ve had a running bit on our first two albums of having the lead off track be the title track as well. The trend continues!" the band comments.

"This song is about alien visitors: hoping they’re friendly and curious like the best of us humans. It’s also about aging, which feels like you’re an alien to certain generations including your younger selves, and the impossibility of being understood."

With a twitchy back-and-forth between the bass and drums and speeding guitar work, the song opens with a tense, restless tone, and maintains a beautiful quirkiness throughout.

Editrix recorded The Big E with tech-death producer Colin Marston (Krallice, Behold…, Dysrhythmia) at his soon-to-close studio in Queens. While the songs come across as finely crafted and technically complex, there’s a raw, spontaneous energy running through them. Most of the album was tracked live, with just a few overdubs added later.
