Silent Mass: Land of Heart's Desire

The newest offering from the up and coming dreampop / shoegaze group Silent Mass is Land of Heart's Desire, the lead single off their impending album, The Great Chaos, scheduled for release on June 21st, 2024, coinciding with the Summer Solstice. The song explores the theme of unfulfilled dreams and how they can inadvertently impact those around us.

Ammo of Silent Mass shares: "I wrote the song while reading W.B. Yeats who was a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Yeats wrote a play entitled ‘The Land of Heart’s Desire’ about unfulfilled aspirations and how they can inadvertently affect those around you. This led me to consider the consequences of avoidant behaviors in my own life and uncover the source of my escapism."

Silent Mass initially took shape as a solo project in pre-pandemic Los Angeles, spearheaded by Ammo Bankoff. With notable early releases and performances opening for True Widow while building a solid live presence, Ammo eventually teamed up with audio engineer and guitarist Robert Duncan, relocating to New York City to join forces with drummer and producer Alex Posell. As the demand for live shows grew, bassist Kevin LoBiondo completed the band's lineup, solidifying their final form.

The fusion of post punk, dreampop, shoegaze, and nineties alternative creates a consolidation of sound, characterized by a blend of darkness and heaviness which is undeniably enchanting. Amidst the music's intrigue, there's a tendency towards something melodic and sincerely charged, giving way to an emotive depth.
