Based in Toronto, SWiiMS draw inspiration from a diverse range of genres and artists, finely incorporating elements of eighties new wave, nineties shoegaze, alternative rock, Britpop, and dreampop to produce a fresh sound.
The band's sonic identity is a fusion of Mai Diaz Langou's cultivated poetry and smooth vocals with Colin Thompson's fuzzy and stirring guitars, while bassist Cian O'Ruanaidh further enriches the mix with notable bass lines. The band's debut album, Into The Blue Night, produced by Josh Korody, serves as a reflection on a multitude of emotions experienced during the pandemic. The themes explored in the entire album include love, loss, self-isolation, joy, nostalgia, and remembrance.
Kicking off the album, In Puzzles achieves an uplifting atmosphere, enclosing the feeling of freedom and excitement found in the early stages of a romance. The track radiates hopefulness, featuring a punchy, euphoric guitar riff, and an overall composition of comforting qualities.
