Slowdive: kisses

Slowdive are rightfully recognized as pioneers of shoegaze and dreampop music, and they are not only among the greatest acts in this realm but also remain at the forefront of the genre today. The band have revealed the melodic and impressive new single, kisses, accompanied by a well made video, and also announced the forthcoming release of their anticipated new album titled, everything is alive, set to come out on September 1st, 2023 through Dead Oceans.

Neil Halstead initially envisioned everything is alive as a "minimal electronic record" while exploring the use of modular synths. Slowdive as a unit gravitated back towards their distinctive, reverb-laden shoegaze sound.

As a band, when we’re all happy with it, that tends to be the stronger material,” Halstead says. “We’ve always come from slightly different directions, and the best bits are where we all meet in the middle.”

Slowdive is very much the sum of its parts,” Rachel Goswell adds. “Something unquantifiable happens when the five of us come together in a room.

everything is alive is dedicated to Goswell’s mother and Simon Scott’s father, who both died in 2020. “There were some profound shifts for some of us personally,” Goswell says.

kisses is a beautiful, melodic track, and showcases a sharp, lush, and refined sound, embodying the essence of dreampop at its finest.  Halstead comments on the song: “It wouldn’t feel right to make a really dark record right now. The album is quite eclectic emotionally, but it does feel hopeful.
