Iggy Pop: James Bond

Following Free, from a couple of weeks back, which gave us a delightful, yet, very brief taste of the direction for which Iggy Pop is going on his new album of the same name, one more single has just been revealed, this time taking a more traditional songwriting approach.

James Bond features the vocal contribution of Faith Vern, from the band PINS with whom Iggy has collaborated in the past, and it is based on tried and trusted ingredients, such as a memorable bass line, a laid back jazzy rhythm and an imposing trumpet solo, all very matching to Iggy's deep toned vocal, and reminiscent of Avenue B from 1999.

"I don’t know what she’s up to exactly, but the tables seem to be turning, and she’s taking over," Iggy says about the song's heroine. "Well, why not? I’ll try anything once."

"I’ve never had more fun singing a lyric," he adds. "Faith’s reading is so loaded, and Leron’s production and trumpet along with the band swings like crazy."

Free comes out September 6th, 2019 via Loma Vista.
