Umberto: Alienation

Matt Hill, better known to most of us as Umberto, has delivered another mesmerizing release, his new album titled Alienation on Not Not Fun.

From its first moments it's clear that Alienation finds Umberto at his most peculiar so far and by its conclusion it's safe to say that it's his darkest, toughest to absorb and most ethereal album.

For the first time Umberto enlists vocalists Victoria Gokun and Edward Tonoyan to infuse the music with lyrics inspired by condemned Russian poet Anna Akhmatova, an interesting and much welcome element that pushes the album into even darker territories to the point of distress. Umberto's showing off his skills in experimentation in the most artistic way possible and the result is astonishing.

Watch the excellent video for Drifters, one of the exceptionally most accessible songs of the album and let the whole thing grow on you, like it surely will after repeated listening.
