Virgins: signalling

Virgins are a Belfast-based shoegaze band led by Michael Smyth, who is joined on the recordings by vocalist Rebecca Dow, and a fully fledged band composed of David Sloan (guitar), James Foy (drums) and Brendy McCann of Hand Models (bass). The band's sound presents a grungy and fuzzy take on shoegaze, recalling the guitar-driven underground rock of the nineties, bands such as Smashing Pumpkins and MBV, as well as more recent shoegaze champions like Nothing and Whirr.

signalling, the first single from Virgins upcoming debut EP Transmit A Little Heaven, begins with expanses of choral glistening reverb and an idyllic dreamlike vocal, gradually progressing into grungier territory to create a piece of shoegaze immaculacy. Heavy shoegaze with an unadorned indie rock character blends nicely with beautiful atmospherics, yielding a strong result on all facets.

Blowtorch Records will release Transmit A Little Heaven on October 14th, 2022 on a limited pressing of 200 pink vinyl. In support of the release, the band will go out on a six-date UK tour in November, joined by Wynona Bleach.
