Scarcity: II

Scarcity is a Brooklyn-based experimental black metal act featuring Brendon Randall-Myers (Glenn Branca Ensemble) and Doug Moore (Pyrrhon, Weeping Sores). Aveilut is the project's debut album, arriving in its entirety on July 15th, 2022 through The Flenser, and introduced with the extremely imposing 11-minute cut, II.

Multi-instrumentalist Brendon Randall-Myers composed Aveilut while grieving the abrupt deaths of two close people, tracked it while confined in Beijing's first lockdown of 2020, and completed it influenced by the overpowering pandemic sights of New York's early COVID peak. Meanwhile in Brooklyn, vocalist Doug Moore found himself in the middle of an equally depressing lockdown, living next to a funeral home at a time when New York was America's COVID center.

Aveilut is an effort to present a devastating portrayal of death's contours, steeped in death and grief, and born from Randall-Myers and Moore's familiarity with absence. It is a full length 45-minute composition divided in five movements, the second of which has a cinematic bent and large infusions of genuine emotion, culminating in an incredibly powerful sound which refers to modern black metal and post metal.

The captivating psychedelic video which comes with II was directed by Derrick Belcham, and features Jacalyn Tatro.
