Cola: Blank Curtain

Montreal post punk group Ought have recently announced their breakup, leaving behind a small, yet, estimable body of work, including three full lengths. From the band's ashes arise Cola, composed of Ought's Tim Darcy and Ben Stidworthy together with US Girls drummer Evan Cartwright.

First single, Blank Curtain, introduces the new act by showcasing something worthy of attention, assembled from traces detectable in the three musicians' previous endeavor, interpreted by way of different creative means.

Cola explain: "What started as stripped-down open D songwriting with a CR-78 soon became a full album and new band. We wanted to see how far we could stretch our compositions with just drums, one guitar, one bass, and one voice.

"Blank Curtain is a quarter note kick drum pushing 240 bpm, a drone-like chord progression, and declarative vocals cutting through the haze. If you could invert the color of the Blank Curtain, you might have something like a Chicago house track that sounds like a band in a room."

Cola are now part of the Fire Talk Records roster (Dehd, Mamalarky, Pure X). They are scheduled to perform their live debut at Brooklyn's Baby's All Right on November 16th, 2021.
