Composed of vocalist and keyboardist Gina and bassist Peter, New York's WINKIE bring forward a fascinating blend of twisted darkwave, post punk and shoegaze sounds. The band is preparing for the release of their third album, This Place is Death, expected in September 2021.
The coming album was mixed by Seth Manchester at Machines with Magnets. The rather concise and very dark Burn The Town Down introduces the impending full length, and arrives paired to a very creative animated video created by Chris Mulligan at Famous Swords.
The song and video explore dreamlike states and an alternate reality through a psychedelic, almost surrealistic lens, and the result is utterly enchanting. WINKIE describe their music as "the Sound of Drowning," which after a couple of albums it has proven to be a quite genuine statement.
