From Mississippi, new band, DETECTS, emerge with a satisfying blend of shoegaze and post punk through their first release, Downtime. Although not much is yet known about the band, we are already promised a second two-song release to come out in the near future, as well as a debut full length.
Both songs on Downtime come rather impressive, bearing really good production, and above all, a dark tendency, with opener, Damage, showing a janglier and slightly more approachable side, calling to mind a series of select post punk mainly from the eighties, while the more brooding, It's Gone Too Far takes a heavier and grittier shape.
Promising and then some, the so far enigmatic DETECTS are definitely off to an exquisite start.
