The Body and Cel Genesis unite on Candy Crush, the first taste of their collaborative album Whole Wide World, due November 13th, 2026 via Thrill Jockey. Trance influences, grinding experimental electronics and suffocating distortion collide with the physical force of two live drummers, creating music shaped as much by contradiction and friction as by mutual affection.
“A bunch of the album has Lee (Buford) and Nick (Cowman)... two drummers locking in together. There was a really great moment where they kept playing after the song had ended, because it was just so much fun,” says Chris of Cel Genesis.
The collaboration began while the artists were on tour, with friendship, humility and their contrasting creative methods as its only real parameters. Cel Genesis’ maximalist writing and aggressive editing meet The Body’s improvisational instinct and compulsion to push every idea toward its breaking point.
Recorded across several sessions over two years, primarily with Seth Manchester at Machines with Magnets and additionally by Andrew Oswald in California, Whole Wide World turns that creative tension into something visceral and imposing.
