Deafheaven: Great Mass Of Color

It is almost certain that with each new release Deafheaven are going to initiate conversation. Their approach to black metal has been contemporary and distinctive, and all of their offerings thus far set the bar quite high. New single, Great Mass of Color, is downright different.

Deafheaven now conquer shoegaze oriented indie rock, featuring the production skills of Justin Meldal-Johnsen whose work with acts like M83, Wolf Alice, Paramore and more has stood out in the past. Great Mass of Color isn't without subtle, well given elements of extremity and distortion, but all in all, it's the most accessible Deafheaven have been up to this point. Whether the rest of the just announced Infinite Granite full length will be following the same path or not, remains to be seen.

Infinite Granite comes out on August 20th, 2021 via Sargent House.
