The Mill at Calder’s End is a Kickstarter funded short horror film lead by artist Kevin McTurk and featuring handcrafted puppets controlled by bunraku puppeteers. It is a “Victorian ghost story,” inspired by literature and the works of authors like Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft.
Although a special effects specialist, Kevin McTurk says that there will be almost no computer generated imagery in the final film, because his goal is to make a film that celebrates practical effects.
This is McTurk’s second Victorian horror puppet film, after last year’s The Narrative of Victor Karloch, which you can watch now on demand.
