Xavier Jallais

10.1.14

Xavier Jallais’ figures explore the human body in relation to contemporary society and the sufferings of existence. The faceless characters he creates based on his own image, suffer to survive, fight with their mentallity, are in search of an identity. These paintings depict the protagonist’s emotions and feelings in the absence of facial expression, hiding behind various objects, masks made out of ordinary things or animal skulls. Jallais uses deformity forced upon his subjects to represent the strange art of the so-called anti-self portrait.
