American Psycho: A New Musical Thriller

American Psycho is a new musical thriller based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, a co-production with Headlong in association with Act 4 Entertainment by special arrangement with Edward R. Pressman Tue 3 Dec 2013 - Sat 1 Feb 2014. Sadly the production comes to a close on Saturday, and tickets are sold out, but hopefully the good side of that it will put the production in good stead to get picked up for another run, perhaps later in the year.

Rupert Goold directs this musical adaptation, from the composer of Spring Awakening, which casts Patrick Bateman centre stage as an anti-hero for our time. The Almeida, Headlong along with Act 4 Entertainment bring this iconic novel to the stage in a brand new take, on this satirical social commentary on capitalism during the eighties. I think with the likes of The Wolf Of Wall Street now fresh in the cinemas, even more so you can analyze the book and contextualize the film to see exactly what a shallow era this was, the movie adaptation always captured the superficial morality, wealth/greed and crappy circle of shallow friends.

The running time is approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes including a 20 minute interval. We’ll certainly keep our eyes on this production, to see if it continues.
